Most receivers have "external analog inputs". 
Some have 6 (i.e. 5.1) channel, some have 8 (7.1). 
  Note the sub input can't be used in either case 
since it does not pass through an amplifier.

If you set your receiver to EXT. IN mode and pass 
analog sound from SBs to the external ins, yes, 
you could connect 2 (for 6-channel ext. in) or 3 
(for 8-channel ext. in) SBs - remember you can't 
use the sub input.

Then you use the appropriate amp sections for 
amplified output.

The receiver will provide elementary volume and 
maybe tone controls in this mode but nothing else. 
  The DSP is bypassed so no processing can be 
performed in this mode.
