What Ajax gains you, in brief, is 1) the ability to send requests *in the background* to slimserver (this is the "A" in ajax), thus returning the control to the user even while waiting for a server response, and 2) the ability to manipulate specific elements on a page without doing a full refresh (this would be the "J").
The combination of the two result in a web interface that works more like a GUI app and less like a browser, absolutely essential for a decent and usable slimserver UI. If you happen to be running 6.5, take a look at the Nokia770 skin (works great in Firefox or Opera on a desktop PC), especially the playlist and now playing pages. Change the volume controls, forward/reverse tracks, hit pause/play. You'll get the idea really quickly what a benefit using Ajax is over a traditional html model. That's my soapbox, and I'm staying firmly planted on it. #!/ben -- bklaas "the Nokia770 skin guy" ------------------------------------------------------------------------ bklaas's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25321 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
