Sorry, but I don't understand your comments on Flash in the context of Slim as a product, Where do supposed bloated and wasteful files matter on a local network and where huge audio files are being pumped around anyway? The point to me of Flash is that it allows designers to build user interfaces, instead of programmers. You get a lot better results that way. It's in all common browsers already, has a scripting language that allows fairly complex UIs to be built that don't need to keep going back to the server for a refresh and is able to produce great graphics. Why else is it used so much? Used on an opening page on a web site is bad, but for this type of app, especially in the handheld space, it would be so much more responsive and attractive. It is sometimes used for UIs on devices like cell phones, so it doesn't need to be big and bloated. If not Flash, how about SVG if you're for open standards? A decent graphical UI is a must for a consumer product IMHO, Slim doesn't have one. funkstar Wrote: > EDIT: but if someone wanted to build a Flash skin, especially for > handheld use, i wouldn't have a problem with it. Doubt i would use it, > but wouldn't have a problem with it :P I would use it in preference to the current clunky solution anyday. AJAX may help with some refreshes, but it is still having to go back to the server for state information. And it will still look like an afterthought, like the current implementation does. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but let's face it, Sonus and Roku win sales over Slim on looks of the solution and however much we may choose to sneer at Flash or other graphically rich solutions, it would allow Slim to compete on looks as well as technology. I prefer a slick looking solution and I won't buy another SB until they get it fixed, no one else in my family wants to use them as they are. They all use iTunes instead because it is responsive and graphically rich. -- CardinalFang You're only young once, but you can be immature forever... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CardinalFang's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=962 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25321 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
