I started down the NSLU2 path and after spending way too much time getting it up and running I realized I was stupid going down this path. I saw posts of it taking hours to reindex, don't put all your music in one play list, etc. I decided to abort and retired a 3 year old laptop Thinkpad T40p 1.6 Pentium M, 1 Gig Memory.
This actually will use LESS power on standby than the NSLU2. And is also very quiet. The USB drives are powered through USB and the Laptop can go to sleep and will power them down. The SqueezeBox supports Wake-On-Lan to turn the laptop on. You can pick up a comparable laptop up for $300-$400 used. Reindex, webserver etc. runs fast. Easy to debug issues. Been using Softsqueeze, should have SB3 tomorrow.
