I agree that a lot of live albums and even live concerts are pretty
crappy sounding.  Concerts in arenas and stadiums are intended to
extract the maximal amount of cash from the concert goers while
minimizing the expense to the producer.  A lot of that sort of thing
will disappear along with the record companies.  

People who want to sell concert tickets will still make recordings you
can listen to at home to promote concert ticket sales.

Music used to be an art, performed by artists- i.e. people who loved
doing what they were doing for the sake of doing it.  Many of those who
make "music" these days are not artists, and their product shows it.  It
has always been difficult to earn a living as an artist.  For a while,
the record industry made it easier for some to make an obscene living. 
Now that time has come to and end.  Good riddance!
