Then you are using the Yamaha's dac and not really using the transporter.If you are using pure mode then it would pass through the 1800. Also the straight stereo mode can but it depends on what else you run in the receiver. As far as destroyed? I'll have to think about that, broad term. Are you sure your inputs are the same level. I've seen too many times level inputs being set different fooling people. I agree that it could make a difference but not unless your speakers are very good and again I would have to wonder if it would be a $2000 difference. I do agree that the 1800 is the best AVreceiver under $1500 maybe $2000. The HDMI 1.3 make it very nice for connectivity. I have my dvd, cable box and Playstation 3 all switched in that way and love it.
