Agreed, the archives are rough to use. I'm almost certainly sure it was last month, September, and the thread was a pretty long one.

iTunes is Carbon. There has been significant amount of discussion on
the list regarding the Apple development frameworks: Cocoa and
Carbon. The list archives aren't the easiest to search through but
it's worth revisiting those discussions if you'd like more
information. I daresay actively revisiting those discussions would
result in a collective - and justifiable - groan from listers who
survived those discussions the first time around. We (me among the
guilty parties) really flogged that topic.
