Subject: Gabe Vega and zero tolerance
I posted my question regarding Gabe's subscription request to verify that
there might not be a strong objection to his return to the list. While a
handful of you have objections and more still are skeptical of his ability
to play nice, the majority are OK with giving him just one more chance.
Let me say that, while the creator of this list, Saqib Shaikh, was the
official moderator at the time when Gabe was kicked out, Saqib was unable to
follow the list closely enough and, therefore, couldn't provide any
guidance. Unfortunately, this ate up two strikes for Gabe.
I've considered the idea of moderating Gabe's replies and approving them
before posting. This would put an extra burden on me that I wouldn't
appreciate. Further, I believe he's got to learn to stand on his own in
public. Naturally, I'll keep an eye out for his posts and, in case I miss
something that seems questionable, if anyone feels that he's getting out of
line, please feel free to raise it with me.
I don't enjoy the task of having to moderate, per se. The list has, indeed,
been going smooth for the time he's been away. I really won't have very much
patience regarding his return and will make it absolutely clear to him that
I will have a zero tolerance for any rude or inappropriate behaviour. I do
believe in giving people an opportunity to redeem themselves. If he proves
me wrong, I'll admit my misjudgement and ban him from the list permanently.
I think most of you will not have any objections. Those with doubts, I ask
for your patience. Those who object, I politely request that you join me in
showing some mercy on this person who is passionate about the Mac and
VoiceOver and wants to be a part of this community. I promise that, upon a
third strike, he will have sealed his own fate.
