If you are in column view and move into the apps folder, it won't
work, but it will work if you just move to the folder and do not
expand it.

I can successfully move an apple application from my memory stick
to the desktop. so thanks for all your help it was the fact that I
didn't deselect
the highlighted file in the folder etc.
but another thing is that originally I was trying to move from the
memory stick to the applications folder .
even when trying to move it from desktop to appps folder it will
still not paste in to the apps folder.
