emacs may be able to come to the rescue. There's an add-on for emacs called erk which is an irc client that runs inside of emacs. There may be others too. I don't know if mirc ever made any tiger compatible irc software or not. I do remember they had versions for more than windows I think. There's also bitchx and epic as irc clients but how good these are in leopard I don't know for sure.

I have discovered that I cannot use irsix in leopard.  It worked fine under
 tiger.  as for commands, I think /help should give you a list.
