Hi Søren and all, Networking Macs and Windows:
• On the Mac you can give access to Windows users and Mac users by going under the System Preferences, choosing the Sharing System Preference, and then enabling File Sharing in the Services Table.
• If you wish Windows users to be able to access your user account, click on the Options button within the same pane, then check the Allow File Sharing through smb.
• Your Mac can also access any shared folders on any other Mac using the AFP protocol and can access shared folders on a PC using the smb protocol.
• The easiest way I find to connect to other computers is connecting via the IP address. So, if I'm connecting to another Mac, I press cmd +k when in the Finder, type in the IP address then whatever user information necessary. When connecting to a Windows machine, I press cmd+k when in the finder, type smb://IP.Address and then whatever user information is needed. When accessing a Mac from a Windows machine, I usually just do Start, Run, \\IP.Address then enter the user information and go from there.
• If you have an Airport Extreme Base Station, you can attach a USB drive to it and then share files from that drive to both Mac and Windows machines.
All sorts of options. HTH. Later...
