I think that they knew what they wanted the turn out to be or at least what they wanted it to be and wouldn't want to spend extra money for a product that everyone is going to buy anyway. I can guarantee that no one that showed up at the Apple store on Friday didn't know that they would be waiting and in a long line. If this was a new Mac Book Pro launch I would have been first in line too, just like with the release of Leopard. If Apple is as great as I know that they are I believe it was very intentional to not pay for something that would have cost them thousands more just to activate a phone that they could easily blame AT&T for. The JESUS phone can do no wrong and surely AT&T is the culprit.

Seriously, you think Apple didn't anticipate the number of phones they would sell or the number of mobile me or .mac customers they would have. I doubt that. This is kind of funny. We expect perfection from Apple even though the normal track record for other companies when launching products is lousy at best. Consider Microsoft for example. When they launch things its almost funny. So, when Apple, a company that usually hits a grand slam when they launch things has a bit of trouble we all cast doubt on them. Stuff happens and this is very new and technical stuff.

I agree Scott. I appreciate that they're trying to do this, but they overdid it. They probably don't have enough bandwidth or server space for this. I honestly think less people will buy the IPhone because of the downtime.
