     Forget "extensions" (ie. suffixes)! This is very bad MS way to identify
files content (except marginal case of files without internal signatures).
For example, I often receive .doc files, which are really RTF (bug in MSO
converters). But because they have .doc suffix doesn't mean they should be
opened as MSWord (not as RTF or plain text).

     The more so, in MSW with "ask converter" option turned on, Open dialog
after Ok asks which converter apply (and preselects RTF). Here I may confirm
(just press Enter) or select something other (for example, Plain text). Very
convenient (at my taste) - sometime MS brokes own dumb ways (ignores
extension in given case) and does something more intelligent.
