Besides yourself (and you are not a developer),
By definition, anyone who hasn't signed the JCA is not a developer. So let's stick to a more useful concept, like "potential developer". Unless you mean to imply that I am unable to program, which is very rich comming from someone who knows less programming than I do. I /could/ be a developer if it weren't for the JCA. I was going to start by adding some matheamtical and statistical functions to Calc (e.g. non linear regression). That's an area where Calc lags behind Excel. I walked through the code with Sander. This is a good place to get started because it doesn't require UNO, and it's not too difficult to do. I also did work on an basic BibTeX import filter. I also wrote a few macros, and began work on a clipart installer. If you search IZ you will find that Laurent and I asked the developers to update the API so that it'd be possible to add images through the API.
So, though I am by no means a hacker, I'm not clueless either.
I think that at least for add-ons, the JCA could be removed. OOo already ships with third-party products that Sun doesn't own the copyright to (e.g. Python). The same thing could be done for add-ons.
I won't disagree here, as I've argued versions of this. More
specifically, I've argued for the establishment of repositories of add
ons and plug ins that would enhance OOo. Of course, I'm not a developer
so to me it's easy to say, let's have this. I suspect it's actually much
more difficult. ,
Cheers, Daniel.
Best,
louis
