Hello!
Hunspell is derivated from MySpell but it improved much. First time it
was better for Hungarian language and it maintained the compatibility
with myspell. Later - Mr. Németh - integrated more and more useful and
more advanced features like:
- Unicode support (first 65535 Unicode character)
- morphological analysis (in custom item and arrangement style)
- Max. 65535 affix classes and twofold affix stripping (for
agglutinative languages, like Azeri, Basque, Estonian, Finnish,
Hungarian, Turkish, etc.)
- Support complex compoundings (for example, Hungarian and German)
- Support language specific algorithms (for example, handling Azeri and
Turkish dotted i, or German sharp s)
- Handling conditional affixes, circumfixes, fogemorphemes, forbidden
words, pseudoroots and homonyms.
- GPL/LGPL/MPL tri-license
That is why it is better for German language tha general MySpell. So
HunSpell is a general engine, not just for Hungarians.

I don't think this is as bad as it looks at first glance.
I you check at http://lingucomponent.openoffice.org/ you will see that
hunspell is the successor to Myspell and if you follow the link to
http://hunspell.sourceforge.net/ it looks as though the originator is
of Hungarian origin.
