Now I understand that, and I agree. Yet if I was an IT Manager supporting 300+ clients and look at this and say either 0 dls for OpenOffice.org but we loose our messaging vs. $60,000 dls in licenses but I don't hear of issues with the users. I understand that you will sacrifice that money before hassling the boss or having the CEO of a company insane because he can't send his doc report.
However I also question if you have something like a consortium of companies with the same callenge you could fund $1 million dollar effort to bring an OOo-based PIM or an exchange bridge for OOo.
Yet the problem is that is a chicken-and-egg situation. Most companies don't want to be the first company to start the development on their dime for everyone to enjoy. At the same time, the expertise in OOo is lacking which will probably come down to a pseudo-fork since nobody understand the OOo toolkit very well to mesh it with the API to come up with a new application except the ubra-big corporations like IBM.
As OOo people we have to educate the CIO's and IT managers of the world the real value of FLOSS and is not that they can save money but they can close their small gaps that this new technology makes.
I think we are doing a poor job sending that message to the companies of the world that are/or want to adopt FLOSS.
