I was not referring any user but the default choice made by the OOo
people.
Somewhere along the
line the choice was made to default to dates. I agree it seems
a little obscure, but what the heck that's what they chose and
in that context my comment, "As assumptions go it isn't the
worst possible choice. <grin>" seems to be to be pretty
innocuous.
