I have been wondering if I could help the following areas...
(1) System Abstraction Layer (SAL), especially OUString, rtl_ustr_xxx(), ...
(2) DOM or XML-DB like API for reading an ODF file, primarily for Calc.
(3) Saving auto-recovery information in background
