Speed of desktop development. A regular desktop app takes far more work. Plus you wouldn't have access to the integrated stuff they are including. Imagine trying to do a desktop app in say java and then needing a underlining database engine to run the stuff. You have to find a solution and build it in. With AIR, SQLite comes with the runtime so all that work is saved. The other side, is that in many cases, companies have to develop two seperate instances of there software. One web based and the other desktop based. Case in point, Intuit, has Quickbooks on desktop but they also have an online version that requires a completely separate set of development and coding. Imagine using most the coding for both deployments. With AIR that is much easier to do. Cost savings! Plus, frankly AIR apps just look better than most of the regular desktop apps. For example, does anyone really like using Java Swing? We had an interesting discussion on this at the CF Lunch today, but let me ask all of you ... Why does the world need AIR, anyway? What's it really good for? We came up with two big answers at lunch: 1. Creating "sometimes online, sometimes offline" applications 2. Allowing Flash/Flex/HTML developers to create desktop applications without having to learn other languages or OS-specific peculiarities. What else would you guys add?
