'What can you do to help' is less scary than 'Your help is needed'.

People don't want to do things but people want to be part of something.

'Small things you can do to be part of the community'

Wording is everything. "Don't ask what the country..." is still remembered.

My 2¢

Ian,

my best guess would be to create an extra forum e.g. Do you want to help?

'Development' etc wil scare people away.

Simply post tasks and from there take it to bugzilla, the entry level is
low and a broad audience.

There is a huge amount of lurkers on the forums and we can capitalize on
that.

Certainly feel we should 'advertise' such things on the forums. Many
only read the forums and avoid lists (they often think that the lists
are above their heads)

Certainly make it clearer on the Wiki too. We need a 'What can you do to
help' or 'Your help is needed' type thing right in front of their eyes.

It needs to obvious and in their faces.
