and theres the rub, if you do visit the forums regularly you see the number of users who go there and ask questions, its a lot, they don't use the lists or bugzilla, some continue to ask in the forums even though told to use bugzilla. They may only make the one visit looking for an answer, got to bugzilla, search the forums, or do a google search are not what they expect, many present as inexperienced hobbyists, a poor description I know. You have to wonder how many just say all to hard, never come back and go onto other distros, some would say good, don't want them if thats the case. It would be interesting to see what is the usage of SME server now, home and hobby versus business/small business. A forum is a community, it reflects the community, ppl today look for a community to be part of. With encouragement some may well become deeper involved. An example that is current, this began life as a forum question: http://forums.contribs.org/index.php/topic,49556.msg247804.html#new The proper procedure is pointed out, file a bug, it was done eventually http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7341 To me the forum achieves more, it reaches more ppl, its not techy :-) so far the only suggested solutions have come from the forum As always, just my thoughts _______________________________________________ Discussion about project organisation and overall direction To unsubscribe, e-mail [email protected] Searchable archive at http://lists.contribs.org/mailman/public/discussion/
