Hi Jonathan,

nice to see you back around.

The 'Test Internet Connection' in the console app 'phones home' with data. Let's take a look at that.

I personally think that the data submitted should only contain:

a. Install date
b. Version
c. GeoIP location
d. Unique installer code

regarding d. When using a virtualization platform and 'cloning a VM' this unique code will not change...

Food for thought.

Cheers,
-HF

Hi

i worry that these statistics are a bit against the private life of
our sysadmin and users.
Have we already take statistics like that ?

Even if the data can not be traced back to the server and only contains aggregated data and no privacy related data?

Perhaps we should add a screen at the end of the installer to opt-out and also invest in a proper data policy if we are to do any submission, I think at least it should contain something like the following:
- what data we submit
- what we do with the data

Kind regards,

Jonathan
