Yes, setting a roadmap would be good, but, with the sparse resources we
currently have, we shouldn't add any ETA ;-)

I agree that our current horde is far too old. We should either replace
it with a more current one, or drop it completely from the core. I
personnaly am more in favor of moving it out of the core (but keep it as
a maintained contribs), but, this is just my personal POV (and because I
use SOGo anyway)

I frankly don't see what samba4 would buy us. It seems a huge job for
very small advantages

Plus side:
- - workstation auth a bit more secure as we'd switch to a kerb based stuff
- - MS tools to manage workstation (not even sure this is a plus ;-))

Cons:
- - huge integration job
- - we must ditch all our currently working stuff and replace them with
the one supported by samba (mainly DNS and LDAP)
- - all our currently working apps using LDAP would break, as switching
to samba 4 will force the AD style LDAP scheme

Maybe I'm misinformed on this topic, so please, correct me if I'm wrong,
but I personally don't think it worth it

Starting to work on C7 would be a far better investment IMHO. it'll be
hard, probably a lot more work than the C5 -> C6 switch (as Stephane
noted, a big part of the job will be because of the switch to systemd,
but there's also tons of advantages. I especially can't wait to have
every service logged through Journald)

Modernizing the server-manager should also be high priority, and this
will need a lot of work. First, we'd need web designers to create a more
attractive look'n'feel, and perl coders to rewrite all the panels with a
more modern framework (probably Mojolicious, as proposed by Charlie, and
I agree it's an excellent framework)

Cheers
