Indeed we have to write and update a 'new roadmap' for the SME Server,
I will try to have a look on this, but even if anything start by an
idea, we need coders or people really involved for doing it. You could
easily understand it is not because you need it for your job, That we
will do it for your beautiful eyes. Please come here and become
volunteers :)
Yes, setting a roadmap would be good, but, with the sparse resources we
currently have, we shouldn't add any ETA ;-)
I will be working with Tony on this over the forthcoming weeks - we'll
try and update things, add ideas etc and we can then sit down and decide
on priorities.
If any one wants to add to things and help then great.
-Horde
I agree that our current horde is far too old. We should either replace
it with a more current one, or drop it completely from the core. I
personnaly am more in favor of moving it out of the core (but keep it as
a maintained contribs), but, this is just my personal POV (and because I
use SOGo anyway)
Agreed
-Samba4
For the next release we will have to use it. It is really not my
circle of competencies, other may answer better than me, mainly if we
want to have an Active directory compatibility. I have the feeling
that it is wanted, asked, but no works really started. Please go If
you want this.
I frankly don't see what samba4 would buy us. It seems a huge job for
very small advantages
Think it depends on what users want - I think we ought to try and canvas
some opinion about it. Clearly there is SOME interest but the question
will be is there enough to warrant the time.
User may have to make a choice between us investing time in say Samba 4
or upgrading to CentOS 7.
Modernizing the server-manager should also be high priority, and this
will need a lot of work. First, we'd need web designers to create a more
attractive look'n'feel, and perl coders to rewrite all the panels with a
more modern framework (probably Mojolicious, as proposed by Charlie, and
I agree it's an excellent framework)
Agree, but when to include this I don't know. In v9 or 'v10' ?
We will add this to the 'Roadmap' with some of the pros and cons and
we'll have to then make some choices on how best to invest our resources.
Interesting times ahead :-)
