I love your project.  RFID tags are really cool.  Your solution removes
that and is more general. As it is probably quicker and also less prone
to error.  

In terms of the tagging for barcode:  These numbers are available in
musicbrainz for example.  If you use musicbrainz to tag it might be in
your files already.  You may get away without tagging the files by
looking up the barcode uisng an online service such as musicbrainz and
then searching the local library for an album of that name or similar. 
Just try scanning a CD barcodes with google goggle on an android phone
for example.  Actually that's even cleverer as it can recognize the
cover of the album.  Mmm another idea?

Once you now the artist and album name you can play it or present a list
of close matches to the user to pick from.  This of course means that
you have to have a camera device of some sort (probably a smartphone).

In fact on android you may be able to hook onto some of the intents
launched by google goggles on music cds,  for example opening an amazon
link?
