For me it's all about usability, and making the interaction with the
digital beast somewhat graceful.

I submit that a quality printed catalog, with nice layout and art, is a
beautiful object to own and to share. Hell it doesn't need to be a
generated music catalog; It could be a photo book from your last
vacations, with a magic link to its soundtrack (I like discovering local
radios and local music when I travel.) Or a birthday booklet featuring
the party playlist, with free space for guests to add doodles and
messages on the pages…

Now, for a graceful link between the "book" and SBS.
After giving it a bit of thought, I'm not sure the cam is a really good
device. It would have to be very accurate, smart, fast, otherwise
standing in front of the cam (or using one's smartphone) to get a song
to play will soon get boring. I have both iPengs and I still use the IR
remote a lot.
So I looked at true barcode scanners. They work fast and reliably, but a
coffee table is not a minimarket checkout… Finally I thought that
something like a Unitech MS910 ('short youtube video'
(http://youtu.be/E6-HUJA2EH4)) could be on the verge of being
acceptable. Hoping the bluetooth link is perfectly reliable, of course
(and I have my doubts.)
Those hand-sized scanners don't seem to do QR codes, only barcodes. This
removes a bit of hype factor, but none of the functionality I think.

At $150-$300, the UI experiment is not exactly cheap… What do you think
?
