That's not agile

We're not releasing competitive product here. This kind of thing needs to
be specified as well as implemented.

But it does have a nice ready, fire, aim quality about it.

The premise of Franck's response seems to be that agility precludes specification.

An example of the problem with that position is that I still can't tell what author or recipient problem the mailing list revision is attempting to solve or why the problem is important. It's a bit like driving to a grocery store and then asking other folk what food is needed.

Although a logical choice, this seems questionable in practice to me.

1. Messing with Reply-To has always been problematic and there are no
fully accepted practices. I believe it remains controversial, with
no
widespread 'rough consensus', in spite of various widespread
practices.

self contradictory statement

How so?

(interceding) I phrased this ironically in order to highlight that 'widespread' is a variable construct.

In this case, I was trying to point out that the fact that some folk have made particular decisions does not mean that there is a community of rough consensus across developers, implementors and users.

Worse, I really can't tell what the goal is here. Is it to have a
signature by the mailing list be made valid for DMARC, at the expense
of
violating the From: field?

Not trying to solve a theoretical problem but a practical one

You have to do both for this kind of work.

Worse, I have no idea what 'practical' problem Franck is trying to solve or why it needs solving.

ps. it occurred to me that i don't know what 'test' mailing list was
being referred to earlier.

in true ietf fashion I would say: read the archives :P

I'm more intrigued that I've apparently been told to read archives for a mailing list that I said I didn't know about, which presumes that I can find the archives for a list I don't know about.
