Someone please explain to me why everyone should make themselves more vulnerable to ransomware and other attacks so that mailing lists can avoid being inconvenienced and avoid having secure operating practices.

I think we've had this discussion before.  This argument reduces to: "I do not like what structured mailing lists, which have been around since the '90s at least, do with messages, and I now insist that they change their practices to meet what I perceive to be my requirements."

Compelling a very broad deployed base to change its practices in an incompatible way is not a light undertaking.  For this to be sustainable, we (the whole community) need to achieve consensus that it's the right way for the entire ecosystem to move.

If the WK united in stopping the mailing list slow burning dumpster fire, this body has the power to push that through. That means agreement. If anyone reverts to arguing the other side then the likelihood of failure or a sort of passive aggressive slow rolling change goes up. So are you heavy hitters in agreement that some pain in the short run to fix a chronic problem? If so are there other areas where with some control of ego and honest, not smarter than thought posturing, I bet that some rough common ground could be found.

Once you take a painful stand against places where broken is tolerated as a fix, then it becomes easier to find other areas of common interest. Yes, eventually you run into the brick wall but then you know these are the real issues, the hills I’m ready to die on. If not yet, then time for more common ground.

I think part of the philosophy should be accepting short term pain and some strife in exchange for moving toward good. Yes, good. Perfect is beyond the known horizon .
