HEhe.. Nope.. It's very basic on the functionality front... Just a whole load of analog ins and outs and a variety of digital connections.. The main reasons I got it were:
Very good all round quality 24 bit etc.. near zero latency (I get 11ms) Low CPU usage.. The main reason though was that you can directly monitor in some absolutely crazy combinations! At the moment I've got: Deck1 > RME input 1+2 Deck2 > RME input 3+4 RME output 3+4 > DJ mixer RME output 5+6 > DJ mixer DJ mixer out 2 > RME input 5+6 DJ mixer out 1 > Main Mixer > speakers This means I can directly monitor each deck from the pc... Apply effects to them in real time.. Record either each individual deck or the final mix.. Plus I can actually use the DJ mixer to mix two independant PC tracks or one pc track and one record..! Not strictly relevant I know but it's pretty Feckin' sweet!!! Only problem is the loop that's created by having the RME card and the DJ mixer both going to the main mixer.. You can get round it by silencing one or other channel on the main mixer though... Still playing with it to be honest! When I was choosing the card I looked at all the other ones available and thought "Why do I need the hardware effects when I can do it in software? And most of the hardware effects I've seen are pretty shoddy anyway!" .. (nb. I've only ever really checked the Creamware cards and the SBlive!).. Hehe... Sorry to go on! I like my soundcard! Can you tell?? :) Nick -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 06 March 2002 16:48 To: Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List Subject: [dnb-prod] RE: Reason shit "my soundcard's better than yours, etc, etc" heheheh... ;-) does the Hammerfall have hardware EQ? If it does, why would you want to use the Reason EQ or even the Cubase EQ? -----Original Message----- From: Nick Lankester [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, March 06, 2002 4:45 PM To: Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List Subject: [dnb-prod] RE: Reason shit RME Hammerfall. :oP -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 06 March 2002 16:42 To: Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List Subject: [dnb-prod] RE: Reason shit *everyone* should have a Yamaha DSP Factory... no cpu worries then! :) -----Original Message----- From: Nick Lankester [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, March 06, 2002 4:41 PM To: Drum & Bass Arena Discussion List Subject: [dnb-prod] RE: Reason shit I must admit that I sometimes do use the Reason effects and EQ etc.. But only in certain situations.. This is mainly because they seem to take up less CPU than the Cubase ones (Although Cubase 5.1s AMD optimisations may have changed that).. Also I find that the Reason EQ tends to work with Sub bass better?!! I've got no idea wether that's actually true or if it's just a coincedence that the Bass's I've made using the Reason EQ were better anyway.. But yeah, I agree on the whole.. Sounds like it could be the mixer algorithm in Reason or even the main audio engine.. Should be pretty easy to test if the drop in sound quality is that noticable... I've *very* much been wondering this. If you use Rewire with, say, Cubase, the Cubase engine is doing the audio generation. But digital info is still passed from Reason (info that describes the "sound"). Will it sound better? I hope so. Need to sit down and really test it. b ===== Brian J.
