I've read that tip before in a Sound on Sound article - invisible
compression they called it - might be good to try over some breaks.

Just set up your effects send/return on your mixer with a compressor instead
of an FX box - could use 2 mono channels on Aux 1 and 2 for mono sounds like
bass and breaks or kicks and snares...

Subject: [dnb-prod] Nice little tip..

Read a great little tip in Future Music's review of some compressor or
another...

Basically, when compressing, the battle is to end up with something that is
punchy (if that's what you're after) but that hasn't lost any transient
details and depth...

The Compressor they were reviewing (forget which one) had a button to merge
the original signal with the compressed signal to give a kind of hybrid
compression method..

Obviously you can do this with any compressor by simply using it as a send
effect... Does anyone already do this ? It sounds like a cool idea....
Probably takes some practice to get good results though..

Nick
