At the IETF meeting, I had comments, but could not comment about this topic. Same topic was discussed in Japanese comunity this March and then, I implemented prototype "On the Fly" DNS server. http://member.wide.ad.jp/~fujiwara/v6rev.html This program works well. (performance problem may be solved by writing new code by C language.) This document says: > 3.4. Dynamically Generate PTR When Queried ("On the Fly") > ... > This method may not scale well in conjunction with DNSsec [RFC4035], > ... > this method is not recommended. Now, I'm testing "On the Fly" generation of PTR and AAAA RRs and "On the Fly" signing using perl + Net::DNS::SEC. Please test 2001:200:132:6::/64 reverse zone. For example, % dig @v6rev.dnslab.jp -x 2001:200:132:6::1111 +dnssec % dig @v6rev.dnslab.jp 20010200013200060000000000001111.user.dnslab.jp. aaaa +dnssec # I didn't implement non-existing case yet, but it can be implemented. # I have an idea, but no time. Performance problem will be solved by better code and new hardware. In my opinion, "Dynamically Generate PTR When Queried" works well.
