Francis, I think that deleting the cross-references is to radical and could make the documentation unusable for some people. Everybody learns in different ways and removing any of those is detrimental to the purpose of the documentation. Also it also effects all of the documentation, as having one guide having a different layout than others gives the impression that one piece of the set is shoddy. This means that all of the documentation needs to look the same in terms of its layout.
