There are two transmission oil lines to the trans oil cooler, and two engine
oil lines to the engine oil cooler.  At least that's the way it is on my
3.2L; 2.7 is probably the same in this regard (every external cooler
requires an inlet and outlet line.)

If the oil level is low, you can (*surprise*) have low oil pressure. :-)  If
there was that much leaking going on, maybe that's all it was, especially if
the oil level was refilled after your son tightened things up.

The sensor will pretty much fail, and the light will come on very frequently
if not stay on all the time, so I wouldn't waste any time worrying about it
*as long as the oil light comes on when you start the car*.  If the light is
inoperative, get it fixed.
