sad, that I am not more smarter on engines because this whole mess is a puzzler.
All I do know is:
I change my oil regular at 3000
NO I have never checked it. Never thought at such low, miles I needed to.
The oil light coming on started back at 50,000 when I was told it was the oil
sending unit. There was NO oil on the stick then.
Then again it does it and now I am told to go through some test to see where it
is going....that the stick showed none but when emptied out it show like a
quart and half over.

I have my last test that was delayed that will get done Monday.
I have looked it is low.

I don';t know what is going on as I can see there is no quick guess.
I thank all of you who have gave me advice. I will continue to check it at
every fill up and give it some when needed and drive it....
and NEVER buy a dodge again.
thanks

The neighbor across the street from my folks place has a 2.7 with
over 200,000 miles on it, and supposively owned it since new. The
car ate 3 starters from what I am told but the engine was never
touched. Again, from what I am told.

Now, assume the person who filled the engine with oil the first time
and got it right smack on the FULL mark. The next person checks it
and its a half quart low in about 500 miles. For a 6 year old
engine, I wouldn't consider that to be excessive oil consumption.

So, lets say the engine ate half a quart of oil in 500 miles. In
1000 miles it would be 1 quart. By the time 3000 miles roll around,
the engine has eaten 3 quarts of oil. The math leaves TWO quarts
left over, and there is half a quart in the oil filter and a fourth
of a quart in oil galleys and coating engine parts, etc. That is not
enough for any automotive engine to run on safely. Oil starvation
occurs and bearing failure is the result. This is assuming it gets
changed RIGHT AT the 3,000 mile mark. Go to 3500 miles, which is no
big deal provided there is sufficient oil still in the engine yet.

Next, for someone to say that they get their oil changed religiously
at 3000 mile intervals and the engine experienced failure anyway....
did they remember to check the oil level during that 3000 miles???
If you can't find time to change the oil, at least find time to check
it. Dirty oil is a lot better than no oil.
