I think the "speed proportional" rack has one or two electrical connectors that plug into it near the steering column, and the "standard" rack has none. No idea about manufacturers, though.
Make double-sure that the rack itself is bad and it's not just the mounting bushings. The bushings can rot away and make the whole rack flop around.
