If the MIL is lit, there are most certainly going to be error codes.
You can retrieve the codes using the key on-off-on-off-on method, being sure
to observe the odometer closely (the codes will read out there.) Many have
written about this process; I won't repeat it, but will instead refer you to
Allpar.com, which has good write-ups on it. It also has the list of codes
and their meanings.

For your Intrepid, the inexpensive (<$150) code readers are a waste of
money, since you will have access to all of the OBD-II codes via the
key-switch method outlined above. If you have a few hundred dollars to
spend, one of the laptop-based code readers with the requisite add-on
Chrysler module will be a better investment, but only if you will require
access to the Chrysler-specific codes and plan to do in-depth
troubleshooting.

In my experience, when you aren't experiencing actual driveability symptoms,
the most likely suspect causing an MIL light is the fuel vapor recovery
system, which encompasses several components which may develop leaks,
resulting in a setting of an error code. Make sure your gas cap is nice and
tight.
