Paul,

Thanks for the info.

I still believe that the intake had a slight vacuum leak from the factory.
Think of this for a second:

The engine idle RPM's were fine prior to removing the intake plenum.  (Which
was being removed to replace a faulty injector.)  I noticed the intake gasket
to look like it was not sealing properly and replaced the gasket.  Then without
adjusting anything I re-installed the plenum.  The idle RPM's were now so low
that the engine couldn't (and wouldn't) remain running.

To me, this confirms that there was an intake leak prior to removing the
plenum.  Until I was troubleshooting the injector the engine had never seen a
wrench.  So, I know everything is factory original.

Slightly opening the butterfly fixed the idle issue.  And it now drives
perfectly fine.  We will be taking it on a trip this weekend where it will have
almost (2) tanks of fuel use and I will be checking the mileage.

Jay

The sticking throttle butterfly valve is caused by carbon buildup in

the throttle body.

Just FYI, that throttle plate stop screw shouldn't be adjusted.

Desired idle speed is achieved by actuation of the idle air control

valve, which is probably sticking similar to how the butterfly is.
