Hello Group,

OK...here's the update on the error code issue.

This weekend I pulled the upper intake plenum and replaced the #5 fuel
injector, and intake gasket. (We purchased this car NEW and it now
has 93,000 miles. The engine has never been worked on until recently.)
The service manual said that it was OK to re-use the gasket as long
as it had no cuts or damage. Well, the entire thing looked fine
except on the #5 port area. The gasket was sorta kinda laid over. I
believe this was a very slight vacuum leak that went undetected until now.

While I had the plenum off I was inspecting the throttle body /
butterfly thing-a-ma-bob. And noticed that the idle adjustment screw
was allowing the butterfly to completely close to the point that it
would actually stick from being seated.

Sure enough...with the NEW intake gasket creating a seal (no longer a
vacuum leak), the RPM's were so low that it wouldn't stay running at
idle. OK....I now need to adjust the idle set screw. Size 20 Torx,
but with a pin thru the center forcing you to use a special tool. I
removed the center pin only to find that the set screw is loctited in
place and won't budge. My temporary fix (with the engine NOT running)
was to hold the throttle wide open and place a small, stailless steel
hose clamp around the entire set screw and casting protrusion. This
increased the idle stop by the thickness of the clamp band. This
worked GREAT.

The problem began when the engine's idle was originally set at the
factory and locked in place while there was a very slight vacuum leak
on the #5 cylinder. The idle position was set lower than normal due
to the vacuum leak. With 93,000 miles of wear on parts the idle had
recently became so low that it would occasionally cut off when brought
rapidly from throttle to idle while making a turn. We were blaming it
on the quality of gas these days or dirty injectors.

Anyway...we'll be driving it and report how it responds to the repairs.

Thank you very much to all that helped me with this project,
Jay
