Unless I missed something critical, and my last post went unanswered
so maybe I did, at this point .tel is going to be another giant
waste of time.

This does look a bit different on my side. We sell domains for various
top-level domains including .info and .biz (and certainly .org. I think
they're differently looked at in different parts of the world). I don't
buy a single word of the sales pitch for .tel, but all I care is that
OpenSRS lets us offer a great variety of domains. We sometimes
discourage a customer to buy a certain domain and ask them to reevaluate
their decision, but it's the possibility to choose (together with a
clear local focus) that drives our customers to us.

big part of it. The support is good in the odd case where I need it, although sometimes only because I know which buttons to push to escalate an issue.

Same here

Mostly I justify staying because Tucows/OpenSRS has been a force for good improving CIRA and ICANN, or at least trying to fight some of the more abusive practices out there.

Another boring "me too".

So no, there really isn't a lot to talk about, and moving to an even more difficult communication method certainly won't improve anything.

I fear so.
