Hi James

We've been working behind the scenes for a while now to bring our Resellers a much-improved forum for discussion of our services. Effective December 1st, the old mailing lists will be closed down in favor of an online discussion forum.

Again? Like a few years ago? I hope you have at least an email interface for using it.

Some of the reasons we've moved to a forum solution include:

1. archiving of older content, so you don't need to hang onto those old email messages.

Instead I depend on your archiving?

   2. searchability, so you can find the answer to that question quickly

My mailaccount is easily searchable, even when I'm not online. I don't really feel like scraping your web pages to reproduce that functionality.

3. simplicity, reducing a large number of different lists into a manageable number of categories

Yet another web page to visit isn't simpler, but more complicated.

4. versatility, including a number of ways to keep up with new posts (RSS, email alerts)

Mail alerts are good. Do they contain all the content? Can I answer via mail?

One of my goals as Community Specialist is to build relationships with our Resellers and to help you build relationships with your peers. These new forums will help us to start building a real community amongst ourselves. It gives us a way to listen to your suggestions and for us to draw upon the combined brainpower of thousands of very smart people. I can't wait to see where we can take it!

We've "soft-launched" the project already at http://opensrs.com/forums and we'd really like to hear what you think (including letting us know about any bugs or usability issues you might notice). Registration takes just a minute. I recommend you head over and sign up right away, since we'll be discontinuing the mailing lists as of December 1, 2008.

With some things OpenSRS is really slow (like modernizing the client code). With other things they move faster and farther in a direction I don't want to go. Oh well...

But if you're anyway already redoing everything: A bug tracker (public or at least for the resellers) and a public code repository (instead of only downloads) would be nice.

Regards

Arthur
