It's not if what I have read on the subject is correct (note though, I am no expert on the topic). Technically I believe you are not even allowed to rip a CD you have purchased to create oggs for your media player. I can't imagine anyone getting prosecuted for it under the current regime, but it just goes to show how vulnerable we are when crappy bills become law now and the regime changes later on. > I have been thinking to use Ipredator, it is a VPN from the guys of > piratebay, does anyone know if this is a good way to keep a private copies of > our media? I looked at that but decided on the VPN solution. With iPredator it comes down to plausible deniability, i.e. the connection came from your IP address but it could have originated from any number of people routed through iPredator running on your machine. I thought this through and decided that I didn't want to find myself using plausible deniability in court to defend myself when it transpired that someone had been downloading something decidedly unsavoury that was traced back to me. Not only does that sort of mud stick, but I didn't want to offer protection to people who, for instance, want to download porn anonymously.
