Hi all! I'll stick my nose out and state that I actually like Unity. It's been a part of Netbook Remix for a while now. It took me a while to get used to, and even longer to figure out how to use, but I would say that, all in all, it has made my little Acer Aspire One much easier to use.
I'm running 11.10 on both my Netbook and an old Dell laptop that serves as a Boxee media server. I've had no Ubuntu related issues installing on either ( the Dell hard drive is progressively failing, so I bad big problems getting it on, but once there it all worked ). Granted, both my machines are small screen devices, so I am probably more affected by Unity's low real estate approach, and appreciate it more as a result.
