Since I started the thread about how 11.10 was a dog *and* suggested that
Charles consider an upgrade, I guess I'd better bring things up to date.

First of all, Charles is already using 11.04 Ubuntu, so the comments about
Unity being horrible only really apply if that's what Charles thinks. If he's
got used to the UI and he's happy with it, then moving to 11.10 should be a
plus, since Unity has improved.

Second, I'm running *K*ubuntu and my earlier comments were about what happened
when I upgraded my venerable Kubuntu, which has iterated through all the
upgrades since around 9.10. There was a lot of baggage in the hidden config
directories and last week I decided to ditch the lot and do a clean install of
Kubuntu 11.10. By and large, it's not bad, although I would still recommend
that people avoid Muon and revert to Synaptic; despite a few updates, it still
can't get the dependencies for the Samba Server Config GUI tool.

So, maybe Charles could fix his problem with an upgrade or maybe he needs to
do a clean installation. If the latter, I would say go to 11.10. We need to
look at his problems in more detail to have a hope to help him.

Otherwise, he maybe needs to consider a different distro as others have
suggested.
