Hi Si,

It is the standard Ubuntu server LTS distribution from Ubuntu.com. I haven't
used the dpkg to manually install packages but it is possible that I have gone
to other repositories as I've been looking at other forums on the internet and
trying things on the command line that they have suggested. I've only been
using Linux for a week so I don't necessarily know what I'm doing!

As for the error message; the line in aptitude is red and I believe it just
says that openssh conflicts with opensshi386. I don't have the machine at work,
so I'll have to look more closely this evening and let you know if there is any
more information.

With best regards,

Hi Tony,

If you are using a pretty standard Ubuntu distribution with the standard
apt repositories I am unsure why you are getting conflicts (do you mean
dependency errors?).

Did you try installing software from other repositories or manually with
dpkg?

Si

Opening Synaptic (or software manager) and navigating to a package will
be the same as apt-get install.

Si
