What has changed to stop it working? :-) Perhaps /var/log/apt might give a clue as to what packages have been upgraded since then, e.g. kernel. I found https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1147729 which might be related. If you have an old kernel version or two that are not too dissimilar to the current one then you might want to see if it works under one of those.
