You obviously have a degree in Googling :-)  I searched for a similar problem 
and didn't find anything ;-(

That is almost certainly the problem; the kernel was updated to V 3.5.0-27 two 
days ago and this is the first time I'd used it since then.  It looks like the 
previous update, to V 3.5.0-25, took place on the 9th.  Apparently V 3.5.0-26 
fixes it, according to the thread that you linked.

Hopefully, Canonical will release 3.5.0-26 sooner rather than later; I can 
live without the camera for a while at least.  Just in case; how do I roll 
back to 3.5.0-23, which apparently works?

My /boot directory includes:

abi-3.5.0-23-generic
config-3.5.0-23-generic
initrd.img-3.5.0-23-generic
System.map-3.5.0-23-generic
vmlinuz-3.5.0-23-generic
