That does look like a bug. Let's hope you don't run that bit. :-)

If you didn't give ./configure a --prefix argument then `make install'
will want to place it under /usr/local.
Looking at the makefiles you could try `make run' to run it from here,
right where you built it.
Or, you could try
mkdir ../openttd-1.8.0-install
./configure --prefix="`readlink -e ../openttd-1.8.0-install`"
make all install
../openttd-1.8.0-install/bin/openttd
