I helped design the Eagle - it has no Dragonflies in its family
tree. The Grahams (Derek and Neal) started out with an enlarged Q2 (or
maybe a Quickie, I can't remember), but this ended up being a lousy
airplane (If I remember right, it crashed fatally). They couldn't get
Rutan's help, so they came to Roncz, who I worked for. We designed an all
new aircraft, with high lift devices on the tandem wings, but with pitch
control on the horizontal tail. The original engine was supposed to be a
Rotax or VW, but it soon grew to be powered by an O-240. I don't know
what is in it now. Graham Swanell built the prototype in Perth and the
Malayasians took the project over after the Grahams ran out of money.
