Here is my take,

Qualified repair is expensive. There are many tinker technicians out there including myself that may do it for less, but everyone I have sent stuff to that I couldn't  find the problem myself, has been pretty much a nightmare. Mostly they don't have the time or don't get to it for whatever reason. So unless someone here recommends a tech that is very reasonable and has documented prompt turn around time, send it back and get a refund.

So the seller is a straight up guy and offered to take back the DOA unit, pay for shipping and refund my money.  He also offered to pay for a tech to repair it.  My choice.  I’m located in the metro Washington, DC area and I can probably get someone to get the unit operational for me but it would take a while.  Then I could begin the process of cosmetic restoration, if I wished.  The third option would be for me to try to do the repairs, but I’m really not the best technician in any given room.

What do you guys think I ought to do?
