That's called "interleaving", and I prefer that when responding to a long post
that elicits various comments on different portions of the original. Careful
trimming, suitable white space, and care to maintain the quoted format are the
keys to maintaining the usefulness of the quoted portions. An awful lot of
people just don't seem to be aware that their email program is also a word
processor.
